Here be a number of Illustrations by illustration artist Jeffrey Thomas. They depict the the key Disney heroins in a darker light. My favorite has to be Mulan or Pocahontas. The translation of Mushu as a tattoo really embodies the idea that he was a guiding spirit, and the details in Pocahontas like the spanish arm plating just make it.

Objective: Redesign the Portal online student services system for the Maryland Institute College of art.
I am satisfied with the outcome. Of course the usability testing brought to light a few issues, which is the point of usability testing, but they can be resolved easily. things like making work study direct deposit more noticeable, as well as moving the profile image so that it doesn't impede with the main navigation.

Portal Home/Landing Page, with profile image of the user (taken from security photo)

Enrollment and Advising Landing Page, with a display of the student's current courses, and some other well used services.

Account Management Landing Page, with a display of general information on the student.
A special thanks to Max and Amanda for their help in acquiring examples for my competitive analysis portion of this projectAlso a special thanks to those who helped me conduct my usability testing; Cassie, kristin, sara, and Katy. For reference:

A friend of mine recently sent me an article about Amazon censoring items, I believe all books at this point, having to do with GLBT themes or issues (
If you do not know, GLBT stands loosely for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans). Apparently most of these books were topping out the rankings before they were censored. The article is quoted below and the
full article can be found
here, as well as a link to a
subsequent article by the author of
The Filly.
"
Mark, Erastes, and Alex (among others) had their Amazon sales rankings removed over the last few days for The Filly, Transgressions and False Colours respectively. On enquiring about this, Mark was told the following:
In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude "adult" material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature.
Hence, if you have further questions, kindly write back to us.
Best regards,

Please note that just before this, Erastes' Transgressions and Alex's False Colours were topping out the rankings. Also note..."
Amazon recently reinstated the rankings of many of these books, making a public apology about the "glitch" that occurred to almost 60,000 listings, also saying that it being confined to only GLBT content was a misreported issue. So apparently the statement from Ashlyn D was also a glitch. right.
If one attempts to search for homosexuality, they receive results amounting to either religiously driven and/or simply anti-gay content. If one searches for anything else such as "gay" or "lesbian" mostly pornographic content appears. All this leads to a skewed image of what it is to be in the GLBT community whether you are Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans, or (like me) a loyal supporter.
It's a fishy issue and needs to be shared.

This is the fourth comment I left for the developers of the MICA redesigned website.
http://www.mica.edu/"
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am commenting in regards to the Portal Login for the redesigned MICA website. I recall that at the beginning of the redesign's launch there was a login at the top right corner of the page allowing students, faculty, and staff to easily login to the portal page. I am also aware that due to bugs in the system the login was removed. I would like to know what is being done to bring that back the home page.
The login option for current users of the portal was a great convenience. I understand the primary purpose of this redesigned site is to attract prospective students, that has been made obvious by the arrangement of choice of information displayed. I do hope that as the site bugs are fixed current students and faculty will once again have easy access to their portal information directly from the home page instead of being told to navigate through other pages to get to their information.
Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. I hope they aid in the final tweaking of the site.
Sincerely

This is the third comment I left for the developers of the MICA redesigned website.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to draw attention to a small issue in usability with the portal Information page for students. When one first comes to the portal information page, we see a scrolling window of News items. Now, say I click on "Enrollment and Planning." All is well so far. I complete the tasks I wanted to complete. But now there is no way to get back to the news articles unless I click on the link in the top utilities bar (where "Welcome back, Max" appears).
I understand that getting the MICA news to the student body is one of the major driving forces for this website redesign. It would be a very helpful fix to have an extra section at the top of the portal's vertical submenu that said "Portal Home" or "News" so students using the system would be able to get back to it easily.
Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. I hope they aid in the final tweaking of the site.
Sincerely
- Max Escher"
This is the second comment I left for the developers of the MICA redesigned website.
http://www.mica.edu/"
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like first to mention how great of an improvement it is to have the MyMICA Portal log in on the home page of the MICA website. this definitely makes the site more cohesive and makes students feel more connected to the centralized site. I do have a comment however with the "MyMICA" link that appears in the top utilities bar between "MICA Email" and "Log out."
In the previous version of the MICA website this link sent students to a login page for the MyMICA Portal. I notice that it is simply redirecting back to the home page of the site. To get to my portal information I need to click on the "student" link that appears directly below the "Welcome back, Max" tag.
The issues are as follows. First it essentially makes the "MyMICA" link useless unless we, as students, want to go back to the home page. Then of course, it would make more sense to label the link "MICA Home." Second of all it's confusing for students who want to get to their portal information. Students are used to using "MyMICA" to essentially get to their portal information. Now, while changing the link to "MICA Home" is one way to fix the issue, it would make a lot more sense to have the "MyMICA" link send the student user to their personal Portal information.
Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. I hope they aid in the final tweaking of the site.

This is the first comment I left for the developers of the MICA redesigned website.
http://www.mica.edu/"
Dear Sir or Madam,
Users do not understand what is meant by "URL of Request" and "Additional Instructions." Lets say Amy, the Fibers Major, wants to give feedback on how wonderful the site looks, she should be able to leave a comment saying so. The fields you have up now, suggest that all this form is asking for are broken links. If that is the case I suggest relabeling it as "Report broken or misdirected link."
The other options would be to change "URL of Request" and "Additional Instructions" fields to "type of comment" (with a drop down menu) and "comments." This will allow Amy to give her positive feedback. Furthermore the change to the form would allow students to give feedback about things that they discover they need after interactive with the site. thank you for taking the time to read my comments. I hope they aid in the final tweaking of the site.
Sincerely
- Max Escher"
